Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and PaintedApp, LLC, which runs Painted Moons. Buying from us, or using the site, means you accept them. If you don't, please don't order.

In your browser: every disc and every phase on the sheet is computed here. On our server, only at checkout: the town's coordinates and zone, the year, the name on the sheet and your colours, to draw the print.
What you are buying
A Painted Moons print is a year of the Moon for one town: a disc for every night of the year you choose, drawn for 21:00 by that town's clock and turned the way the Moon stood in its sky, with every new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter of the year timed to the minute in the margin. It is printed on the paper or canvas you choose, or sent to you as a Digital File.
Every disc is computed from the positions of the Moon and the Sun. None is a photograph, and nothing on the sheet comes from an image generator.
You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live, to order.
Made to order
Every sheet is drawn for one town and one year and printed from those alone. Nothing is held in stock and nothing can be resold, so please check the proof, the name on the sheet and the options before you pay. Your order goes to the print lab after payment, so a print can't be cancelled or returned once it's under way, except where the fault is ours or the law says otherwise. The shipping and returns page sets out what we do when something goes wrong.
If something arrives wrong
If your print arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, write to us within 30 days of delivery with a photograph and we'll remake it or refund you. That is our own promise, and it sits on top of your statutory rights, which nothing here reduces.
Your words, your rights
The name you put on the sheet stays yours. You give us your choices, a name, an address and an email, and you grant us only what we need to make your order and deliver it. Please put on the sheet only words you have the right to use.
Your purchase licenses the print for personal use: hang it, give it, photograph it. It doesn't transfer our copyright in the artwork or the software, and it doesn't license commercial use or resale. If you'd like a commercial arrangement, write to us and ask.
The Digital File
A Digital File is the print-ready JPEG of your sheet, sent as a download link on the page after you pay and by email, instead of being printed. Nothing is shipped. Your purchase licenses the file for personal use: print it as often as you like for yourself, frame it, and give the prints you make as gifts. It doesn't license resale, commercial use or merchandise, or passing the file on for other people to print. If the file is faulty or isn't the sheet you set, write to us within 30 days and we'll fix it or refund you.
Fair use of the site
Please don't scrape the site, resell access to it, or use it to produce anything unlawful, including names on a sheet that use someone else's trademark or impersonate a real person. We may decline or refund any order at our discretion.
The honest limits
Every phase on the sheet is computed from the Moon's and the Sun's positions by the methods in Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms, and the computation is checked against NASA's catalog of Moon phases: all 9,994 phases from 1899 to 2100 fall within a minute of the time NASA lists. A time on the sheet can still differ from NASA's by one minute where the instant falls near the turn of a minute.
Every disc is drawn for 21:00 by the town's clock whether or not the Moon was up. A disc for a night when it was below the horizon carries a small open ring. The town's clock is the offset the IANA time zone database gives for that town and year, which for some places and years differs from what the clocks there read. Screens and paper differ. The sheet is a picture of a calculation, made for a wall, and it should not be relied on for navigation or anything else where a minute matters.
The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of an order or these terms will not exceed what you paid for the order it concerns, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown before you pay, and Stripe's checkout page shows the full total, including any shipping, before you confirm. Stripe charges your card; we never see or store your card details. Prodigi or Printful prints and ships each print, whichever gets it to you for less, and shipping is charged at what that lab charges to send it, with nothing added. Import duties, where they apply, are the recipient's responsibility.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be heard there, except where consumer-protection law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country. Before filing anything, please write to us so we can try to settle it directly.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top always says when. Orders are governed by the terms in force when you placed them.
